Laziness, such Laziness

So I've been on holiday for approximately 3 weeks. I have no idea what I've been doing in the past 3 weeks but time has passed quite quickly. I'm very glad to announce my fellow playmates are finally joining me in the playground as their exams are coming to an end. Finally. It's been lonely out here.

With the departure of my brother (to A-merry-ka) comes the return of my Boyf from inland. When dropping off the brother at the airport, he looked like he was joining the army; crew cut, black clothes, rucksack, the whole deal. He said he was going to "build snow". In a state where it ONLY snows. Joining the army sounds more plausible.

Gerard Butler has finally made another action film after his fame of 300. I watched Law Abiding Citizen today and it was amazing! It's scary to think how the judicial system could work sometimes, but Butler got his revenge!

This weekend we're going down the coast for a girls weekend. I'm quite excited, I'm not gonna lie. I think I need to start packing.

State of Work

As a student, I have yet to fully enter the workforce. But I, unfortunately, still waitress. And previously worked overseas as an au pair. What I have discovered, which will alter the way I look at work, is the more I work, the more I get paid.
As an au pair, if I needed more money, I worked overtime. As a waitress, if I need money, I work more shifts. It is a bad habit to form because once I have entered the Real World, there will be set times and set money. There is no such thing as getting paid to work more. But there is the option of promotion, which neither au pairing nor waitressing has to offer.
I can see why people get stuck in a rut with their job; I work with some waiters that are in their 30s. But after they finish their shift, they get to leave and not worry about work or do extra at home. They are finished until their next shift. Au pairing depended on how attached you were to the kids and how affected you are by them after work. But the Real Job, that, you work your 9 to 5 than you get to go home to stress a little more about it. Maybe kiss your social life goodbye to deal with your growing paperwork. Maybe develop a drinking habit to help cope.
Some will say, enjoy the student life while you can. Personally, I can't wait to enter the Real World. I just have to graduate and find a Real Job first.

The Undead Reborn

Wow I have not blogged for quite some time. I blame the approaching summer. I associate un-productiveness with summer. Thus once I see the sun shining I stop doing everything I am not paid to do.

I am finished college for the year, like a month before everyone else. Yes I'm glad but there is no one to play with. They are all stuck indoors while I'm sitting on the swings with no one to push me. But I would rather be doing nothing than studying.

Having located myself in front of the TV permanently, I have watched quite a few movies. One actress I find who is totally underrated is Kaley Cuoco. She became popular with the show 8 Simple Rules; I first saw her on Big Bang Theory where I enviously tuned in to the Nerd Fest to see all her amazing outfits each week. But what really made her stand out to me was her movie To be Fat like Me where she puts on a fat suit and does a documentary on how people treat those who are bigger than most. It was released in 2007 so she was quite young than and showed a lot of talent. She is gorgeous and I even found a nude pic (or two, or three. I'm starting to suspect she found fame in porn) of her when I did a google search about her so I definitely think she has a long future ahead of her in Hollywood.

Style Icon

My ultimate style icon would have to be LAUREN CONRAD.

I first saw her on the Hills, which I instantly became addicted to. Whilst the Hills has quite a ridiculous storyline and many will argue that their lives are actually scripted, I enjoy it. But I think I tune in every week more for the fashion and what they wearing that day.

LC always looks absolutely stylish yet comfortable. She knows what suits her and she sticks to it. She loves summery dresses and is the icon of the Californian Girl.

As for her hair, it always looks amazing! And I always try to copy it to no avail. I'm terrible at making waves with a curler, let alone a flat-iron! But my favourite hairstyle from her is the braid she has in the front, going to the side. It looks great and once you've mastered it, it's a great way to keep your fringe out your face.

LC makes style look easy. And that's what makes her a memorable style icon.

Top Ten Places I HAVE to Visit in my Lifetime

1. Hawaii - no explanation needed. Plus I think Kelly Slater resides there. Hmmm the stalking begins.

2. Brazil - my best friend is there plus I wanna see that big ass Jesus statue.

3. Greece - there is such beauty in their ruins.

4. New Zealand - I have become infatuated with visiting, and maybe immigrating, there.

5. Mauritius - it's a glorified beach. Must go.

6. Antarctica - for a summer lover, I'm equally surprised by this. But there's the northern lights, and the magnificent icebergs. I'm also planning on smuggling back a polar bear.

7. Bali - no reason needed.

8. Australia - apparently like SA, but not.

9. Miami - I love Khloe and Kourtney hit Miami :P

10. Revisit New York - it's New York New York. You will forever be changed by the beauty.

Accounting for the Week

So I finally found some amazing gladiator flats and heels *excited squeel* But they didn't have the heels in my size. WTF! No worries, we'll try order them for you ma'm. Sigh of relief. Ok so can I have the left shoe for the flats? I have the right. The left looks like it but it's the opposite, not like an evil twin or anything though. What, you don't have it? How do you not have it? Ok so I'll order it? There's a chance I won't get them? NOOOOOOOOOOOO! FML. So now I'm playing the waiting game for my beautiful shoes. Times two.

When High School Musical 3 premiered on TV, I'm not gonna lie, I rushed home to watch it. I was even a little excited *shock horror* I was forced to watch the first two with the kids I aupaired so I was curious. It was good, had some good dancing/singing scenes. Vannessa Hudgens, aka Gabby, is still a slut though for putting up nude pics of herself. Plus she has a hairy snatch.

I am very keen to visit Brazil next year to visit my best friend. Well I was keen, till I saw the very expensive airline tickets. So I'm reconsidering my student status and reconsidering other travel options. Greece is up there on my places to go. I watched (read fast forward through all the singing) Mamma Mia and it just confirmed what a beautiful place it is that I have to visit!

I found out that if it's too hot inside a concert venue, I will give up watching the bands to go outside and talk to people. Unless it's my ultimate fave band. But that will never happen in Little Durban.

This weekend contains work and a hopefully interesting 21st. The theme : fun but classy. Interesting.

GG Addiction

Gossip Girl has to be one of the best (although unrealistic) shows on television these days. When it first came out, I couldn't get over the fact that none of them looked like they were in high school. Especially with the clothes they wear! But I soon got hooked on their storyline.
B has to be my fave character. Behind all that bitchiness is a heart of gold. And it's all for Chuck. It's amazing the lengths she is going to to prove she loves him. The relationship between her and the housekeeper Dorodo (probably spelling that wrong) is also very sweet, she comforts Blair in tough times.
But Jenny's story must be the most far-fetched and annoying stories! Her constant drama is too much. Wouldn't mind if she wasn't in the next season.

You know you love me

Amazing Collaboration

I came across the fantastic cover of Drew Barrymore and Ellen Page on the American Marie Claire. Ellen Page, star of Juno, looks absolutely fantastic with hair and makeup done! I loved these pics so much had to post them! They were doing a photoshoot for their upcoming movie, Whip It. If it has these two in it, I'm sure it's gonna be a great film.

Epiphany

I used to think that gym was the Devil reincarnated. Until I joined a gym. I actually enjoy this so-called gyming thing. I'm not gonna lie and say I'm a buff babe for doing so but I would hope I'm at least fit. Until I found out that I'm doing all the wrong things. For the past few months.
When I joined my gym I had an orientation where a trainer (who has a HUGE upper body, tiny legs and absolutely NO strength) showed me how all the machines worked and what I should be doing. I also asked other friends I knew that gymed what they did while they were there.
And while having quite an enlightening conversation with my best friend and our boyfriends (we all surprisingly enjoy gym) I found out I am doing all the wrong exercises. How lovely! And here I thought I was doing great. Wrong.
So now I'm basically starting from scratch. I'm getting a work out programme and everything.
I foresee a lot of pain in the week ahead...
Any gym bunnies out there?

Nope that is Not it

When buying hair dye, 99% of the time the colour on the box is NOT the colour your hair is after dying. Unless it's black. Black never fails to come out, well, black. But having dark brown hair, with a tinge of red which I have no idea where it came from, I decided to go lighter with the approaching summer. Once checking out the hideously high salon prices, I decided to do it myself at home. Yeah that didn't work out so well.
After leaving it in for longer than prescribed, and anxiously rinsing it out, my hair colour looked the same. Without the red. Now it just looks brown. And the tips look black. Why my hair goes black everytime I dye it is beyond me! But it happens.
Noting this lack of much-wanted change, I am starting to understand why salons charge such high prices. They actually know how to do this dying thing right!

News, Shoes and Reviews

So despite her frighteningly small frame, Nicole Richie, has popped out another baby. Nicole and her man Joel Madden have had a son, Sparrow James Midnight. After naming their daughter Harlow I had no doubt they would come up with a ridiculous name for their second child! Sparrow Midnight does have some kind of superhero ring to it though...

I am jones'ing for a pair of Gladiator heels!! When Gladiators first came out, I thought of them as monstrosities. Now I will do anything for a pair! I am determined to find some!

This week my man and I watched the new Johnny Depp movie, Public Enemies. First off, Johnny for two hours! Who wouldn't enjoy that? Plus he's lost all the horrid hair and makeup, aka his Jack Sparrow days although he can pull off eyeliner. A movie full of gunfire with a couple wisecracks from Johnny and it made a very good movie. Little long though. Won't admit it to my boyfriend but I started falling asleep in the end. Now don't assume it's of the movie, I always fall alsleep!

Off to find some heels. Where oh where can you be?

Good Advice Travels

While perusing through the Glamour mag, I came across some VERY interesting advice I thought I would share.

"Treat your man like a horse: feed him well and ride him hard."
Yes very wise words indeed. A work colleague had given the writer that advice. Can you imagine the awkward silence following that comment?
Good advice travels. One person will share it with another, who will in turn pass it on to someone else. There are some cliches, some outrageous, and some hilarious (like the previously mentioned one). I suppose the most overused one is Be Yourself. Well done for the creativity.
What would your best advice be?

Favoured Moment of the Week

This week hasn't been the most pleasant of weeks. My car decided to stop working all together, but it took a sneaky approach to this. It would start ok, then just when I got a safe distance from home, it would cut out. And would do so many times until I reached my destination, very haggard and frustrated.

But in this dilemma, I got to drive my mother's Nissan Sani, and what a wonderful ride that was! I drive a VERY small car but my heart belongs to big cars. I love nothing more than driving around, bigger and higher than everyone else. Maybe it's because I'm short, but man it's fun!

My dream car is a Range Rover, white or black. But the cost of petrol is making me loose faith in it.

I WILL own a big car at some stage in my life, and this week I got to live out my dream in between all the drama.

The Teddy Bear has been Compromised

Being an ex-nanny, I love the Nanny Diaries as it depicts aspects of the harsh nanny life. I watched it the first week I was in the States with my new host mother. I was excited for this new life; I would lift around kids, play in the sun all day, meet new people. Reality hadn't kicked in yet that I had one of Satan's spawn, disguised as a seven year old boy, and a host mom who denied my existence after I left.

We were Type C nannies : we were on call, ALL the time. Now after being locked out of the house a couple times, and having a meltdown; it was decided it would be best if I "rematched". Meaning I had to evacuate the premises within two weeks or be deported. It was a harsh two weeks (the two leading up to a very hard Christmas) and I didn't know if I was gonna survive them. But I found a great family, five minutes away from the house I was living in, with an angel of a daughter. So I moved and discovered kids weren't all that bad.

To be relied on by these kids is major. There is that one moment where you look into the kid's eyes and you just know, despite all the snot-filled tantrums, you loved them.

Annie Bradock: Okay Mrs X, now it's time for a few simple childcare rules.

Human Resources Director: Oh, alright, the teddy bear has been compromised.

Annie: Slamming the door in your kid's face is NOT okay. Spending more time on a benefit for kids that you've never met than you do with your own blood is NOT okay. Going to a SPA when your kid has a fever of a hundred and four and not answering emergency calls, that officially makes you an unfit mother....

Now I know you all busy with your hair appointments, and your watsu massages and your attempts to stay young so your husbands won't leave you. But here's an idea! Why don't you try eating dinner with your child every once in a blue moon. And heads up here, lady, try smiling once in a while. People hate you.

Yes the moms are super conscious about their looks and before we enter their home we are told to beware of the fathers! But the biggest moment, is the heart wrenching goodbye between the nanny and the child. It stays with you forever.

I still think of my little American girl everyday.

Debt Driven Lives

We have all had that moment where we wanted something so bad, we didn't care how much it was. We had to have it. Mine was a trip to California and a big debt to go with it. I was horrendous with saving which resulted in me borrowing money for basically the entire trip. But I knew every penny borrowed would be worth it.
I was not let down and that one (yes it was just one week. technically eight days) week spent in California with two of my closest mates and some Germans was one of the best weeks of my life! Hands down one of the best! Those memories have never left me and I never, not even for a nanosecond, regretted taking that trip.
Upon returning home and returning to work, I took on the massive hill that was my debt. The hike was long, but once I got my good sneakers on and got moving it seemed to get easier and easier. That first milestone felt good but was overlooked by the fact that I had so much further to go.
As the months wore on, the debt got smaller and smaller.
Until yesterday.
This morning I proudly walked up to my parents and handed them my final installment of debt. I even started crying at how far I had come and how I had paid it ALL back. It had taken me a long year but the memories of that trip are still fresh in my mind. It feels so great to have accomplished it and to know that the money is now wholly mine.
But my tendency to over shop needs to be controlled now!

Dating Revelation

Being in a relationship is great, but it's absolutely fantastic when you hear your single girlfriends bitching about their new crush. Is he interested? When is he gonna text back? How long do I wait to text him? Are we dating now? Bla bla bla bla blaaaa! It's a simple thing really: Men are not as complex as we make them out to be.

As much as any single girl will argue that, men aren't. One of the factors that helped me realize that was the movie "He's just not that into you". It became my mantra for life. Work sucks, he's just not that into you. He doesn't reply, he's just not that into you. It rains and you forgot a jacket, he's just NOT THAT INTO YOU.

I learnt a lot from that simple line. Guys that had held my fancy for a while that just weren't following up with their intentions, suddenly lost my interest. If he really liked me, we would already be celebrating an anniversary by now. It's a harsh way of thinking, but it has saved me some time and made me available for my Knight in Shining Armour, who after a week after dating asked me to be his girlfriend.

So next time you are about to text that loser back (after he took 4 hours to get back to you), know that if he was into you, you would already be dating.

Love and peace xoxo

Even Bunnies can have Everything

I have a confession...I am surprisingly addicted to the offshoot reality show, Kendra. Overlooking her horse-like laugh, I ooh and aah and gasp at all the drama every week. I even look forward to Sunday night just to watch it. It's sad how caught up I get in reality tv shows. But that's an issue for a whole other day!

This week Kendra was getting ready for her wedding (which is airing this sunday and omg am I excited!) and I was just thinking of where she came from to get to this point. She was a playboy bunny, sharing a (very!) old man with two other bunnies and (hopefully not) sleeping with him. And now she has found the love of her life that is the equal half of her. I got a little teary-eyed when she signed into the hotel under her name for the last time.

I used to be a relationship cynic. Until I actually had a real relationship. Yes we've had our ups and downs, and the first time he said "I love you" it was in response to me saying "lovely". Apparently those two phrases sound very similar! He has made me believe in love and therefore makes me get all girly like when watching love scenes!

A girl can have everything in life, even those (fake) bunnies!

Popping the Blogging Cherry.

There is quite a bit of pressure writing your first blog. It has to speak of who you are yet entice the readers (I say it as a plural as I'm very hopeful more than just me will read this) to misspell catastrophe in their URL's and seek me out again. It's like a blind date, you gonna try look your best BUT you also have to look like you not trying. It's the typical "barely there" makeup situation. Why wear it at all if it's not supposed to look like it's there? And that right there was a great example of my ADD thinking and jumping to a random, but slightly linked, topic and thinking you are following me with this sudden conversation change.
But yes, my blogging cherry is now popped and I hope more experience will come with each time I blog. To the many more adventures and blogs!
