Mabula Bula Bula Bula

TRAVEL WRITING would be my ultimate dream job. Travel, write, repeat. Sign me up! So this piece is for the Travelstart blog contest (you can find out info here). I hope you enjoy!

GAME RESERVES have never been high on my travel list but after taking a trip to Mabula Game Lodge, it features highly and repeatedly. My boyfriend and I were lucky enough to win a trip there, thanks to 2oceansvibe, and it was a perfect location for our fourth year anniversary.

WE FLEW from Durban to Johannesburg the Friday morning and then it was a 2 hour drive to the lodge. The room was incredible, it was double a standard room and had a huge bathtub and shower (which I love). We were just in time for lunch (every meal is buffet - hoorah! Let the eating begin!) which we enjoyed outside by the bar and second pool. Where was the first pool, you ask? Right around the corner, very big and kitted out with a waterfall and bar stools in the water where you can sit and order drinks. Upon seeing this, I declared that I would sit in that pool and order a cocktail (which I did on the Saturday and it was one of the best cocktails I have ever had).

Our room, with balcony and turn down service.
First pool, with AMAZING bar.
Second pool, decorative only. No swimming.

THAT AFTERNOON we got to enjoy one of two game drives (we passed on the other two so we could enjoy more of the lodge) where we got to see giraffe, hippos, zebra, elephants and so much more. My favourite was the morning (5am!!!) game drive where we drive through a big gate into the lion enclosure, which is over 250 hectares. There are 11 lions and we got to see 7 of them - not bad! And I'm obsessed with lions so to see them casually walking meters away from us was one of my travel highlights!

The King of the Jungle, meters away from us.

IT WAS a beautiful lodge with incredible staff - we loved our game ranger - and we made memories we will never forget. I now click on every game reserve travel deal I see!

Book Lovers Unite

IT'S NO secret that I love books. I love reading. I love buying books. I love getting lost in another world for a little while. So when I found this Tumblr, I felt right at home. Bookworms Anonymous is my new favourite thing and all the below images are from the blog. The top of the blog reads: "I pledge to read the printed world." Beautiful, ain't it?

GO CHECK it out then get stuck into a book.

#GTBC

GETAWAY MAGAZINE had their annual Getaway Travel Bloggers Conference this weekend in Cape Town. Alas I could not attend. Enter the joy of social media and hashtags. So this is what I learnt from the #GTBC:

The best travel blogs are powered by personality. Things I learned at

Here's a travel blog formula/suggestion: text, photo, text, video. Things I learned at Hello Keith!

. : A blog isn't just a blog. Trad definition of a blog applies to Facebook and Twitter

Trust your own voice!

You need to create hearty content that people would want to return to -

Bloggers r solo publishers. Writer, sub, editor, designer, marketer, sales exec, tea lady all in 1. Things I learned at

Delighting your readers is the key to long-term awesomeness

Your blog vision should be simple, concrete, credible, emotional and phrased in the form of a story.

Rule number 1 for a great travel blog: it MUST reflect your personality. Make it yours. Things I learned at Hello Nellie!

You are not Wikipedia. You're a travel blogger. Don't get all fact-heavy in your travel blog. Things I learned at

Be real. Be authentic. Be true when you write your travel blog. Things I learned at Genuine

"Get involved in what you believe in. Bloggers are travel influencers. " closer .

THANKS TO the peeps who tweeted from the conference. Hopefully next year, my knowledge will be first hand.

I Accept the Challenge!

WHILST PERUSING the Internet (like I do), I came across a new blog, The Katalina Playroom. It's practically book porn! Another interesting find on the site was the 30 Day Book Challenge. I accepted before I even read it! As I have already posted something on books this evening, I shall leave you in suspense of my response to the challenge. And anyway, I think Blogspot might think my blog has been hacked seeing as I'm posting twice in 24 hours. So lemme get off this thing!
