Dixie Obsession

I AM a TV addict. This is old news. But my obsession with Hart of Dixie is new and it ain't going away any time soon!

IF YOU haven't seen it, you're in for a real treat! Dr. Zoe Hart (Rachel Bilson) moves to the small town of Bluebell where she struggles to fit in. And don't worry, it's not like Grey's Anatomy where the whole show is based around the hospital. There is lots of small town gossip, a pro athlete as mayor and FANTASTIC fashion. I've always loved Rachel's style but they really take it to another level in the show.

I BLAME this show for my increasing need to find a great pair of high-waisted shorts. Whilst researching (read "drooling over") images of the show, I came across this nugget...

HOW ON earth could gorgeous Wade (see next image) have had long hair and elfish ears?!? I need answers and I need them now! This pair actually first met on hands-down the best show ever, The O.C. He may be part of the reason why I'm so addicted to the show.... Okay he's a pretty big reason.

IF YOU wanna get in on the action, tune in on Friday nights on Mnet Series. Prepare to have another good reason to be excited about Friday.

Pin Ink

I'VE STARTED Pinning and I can't stop. There I said it. It's addictive and I can't stop. And now I've discovered the ink pics. Dammit. Enter the ink lust.

I LOVE this one.... Not too sure about the placement though.

I love anchor tatts and I love couple tatts even more.

MY NEED for new ink is never-ending.

It's a Race! I'm Winning, I'm Winning!

THREE WEEKS back I saw a Facebook post by Exclusive Books on winning a Summer Sale One Minute Dash. Of course I entered. And I WON! I couldn't contain my excitement.

BASICALLY THEY gave me a minute to get as many books as I could from their Summer Sale tables, six tables altogether. Visions of me preparing like Rocky that night flooded my mind. The advice my dad gave me, "Make like an octopus and grab as many books as you can", ran through my head as I made my game plan. Some girls came with me from the office and actually got to help me by holding open the plastic bags (which EB gave to us for FREE... um, okay). As I scanned the tables, seeing what books I wanted to grab first, thoughts of Reggies Rush ran through me. Do you remember Reggies Rush? If you don't, what kind of childhood did you have?!? I always thought what toys I would get and if I would get anything for my brother, depending how many times he had beaten me up that week.

My Haul
WHEN THE time started, apparently I was really calm, strategically going from table to table, getting the books I wanted. When I look back, after going through the books I got, I really should have got more than one copy of some of them. That would have made great presents, and not cuz they were free. But mostly... It was an experience to remember! Knowing the books are yours and not having to pay for them, it's fun and incredible. When the time was done, and the books being counted by the staff (who were amazing and so helpful), I couldn't believe what had just happened. All in all, I got 67 books. I did truly feel like I was stealing from them!

I KEPT 27 of the books. My two standout favourites had to be The Cocktail and Dita von Teese's Burlesque/Fetish book. Some went to my office mates, and all the kids books went to a school. I really wanted to get kids' books if I had the time; let's not be so selfish shall we? I truly love the books I kept... now if only I could take a month off work to read them all. That would be the cherry on top!

Walking Soundtrack

A COLLEAGUE of mine asked me what song I would want playing as I was walking along or when I walked into a room. Without a doubt it has to be this song...

YES I do want to click my fingers and walk with some swagger every time I hear this song. Every time. And then I saw another awesome video from 500 Days of Summer, the epic movie that it is.

WHAT WOULD your soundtrack to life be?

New Year, New Ways

HOW ON earth is it February 2012 already?!? The last months of 2011 moved by so quickly I barely had time to reflect. I started the year in Brazil and ended it in the Berg. I need to reflect...

AFTER MY Brazilian adventure, I returned to college. I interned very briefly at a magazine in Durban, helped out on the book Awesome South Africa: The Durban Edition, then moved to Cape Town to intern at a mag there. Upon my return, I began interning at an incredible company which was extended to a job. A real job. I am now officially a working adult with a salary. I pay rent. I come home at 5pm. I pay medical aid. I have a parking spot.

SO 2011 was quite a year. 2012 has quite a feat to accomplish. As do I. I need, repeat need, to get into shape. At 22, I need to be able to get up a flight of stairs whilst holding a conversation. And I really need to get over my irrational fear of elevators, back seats, and small spaces.

MY QUOTE for the year is:

I APOLOGIZE in advance if I scream like a little girl at those scary things. I'll try be brave.

The Selling of Books

WHEN I should have been looking for Christmas presents for my nearest and dearest, I was searching through tables (I kid you not, TABLES) of books on sale. You can imagine my utter joy when I found six incredible books before I dragged myself to the cashier before I did more credit damage. Please revel in my excitement with me...

THERE WAS the second and third books in the Lauren Conrad series, which were on my book wish list. Then there was the discovery of the books that changed my teenage-hood...Louise Rennison's books of Georgie Nicolson... Angus, Thongs, and Full-Frontal Snogging... You with me? So of course I had to buy two of the books, combinations of the first four. If you don't know that your boobs are actually nunga-nungas, you need to read these books asap. Then there was Wedding Babylon by Imogen Edward Jones and Last Night at Chateu Marmont by Lauren Weisberger (of Devil Wears Prada fame).

SO AS you can imagine I walked out of there a very happy bunny, with full arms and an empty wallet. My bookshelf is looking full and I'm feeling more like an adult by the day. Because adults spend money on books not shoes, right? .... Right?!?

I Accept the Challenge!

WHILST PERUSING the Internet (like I do), I came across a new blog, The Katalina Playroom. It's practically book porn! Another interesting find on the site was the 30 Day Book Challenge. I accepted before I even read it! As I have already posted something on books this evening, I shall leave you in suspense of my response to the challenge. And anyway, I think Blogspot might think my blog has been hacked seeing as I'm posting twice in 24 hours. So lemme get off this thing!

Book Wish List

I FEEL that one's book and music collections are never complete. Music and book stores are the only stores I can not walk out of empty-handed. So I try to avoid them at all costs, for the sake of my bank account. Until I start perusing online. Dam you Exclusive Books!

SO I compiled my book wish list (well, a minimized version) that I hope to begin ticking off soon:

1. Waiter Rant: Behind the Scenes of Eating Out by The Waiter.
I love the Babylon books by Imogen-Edward Jones that takes readers behind-the-scenes of industries and seeing as I was a waitress for four years (something's gotta pay the bills), I am convinced I'm going to find this book very amusing!

2. Sweet Little Lies by Lauren Conrad.
Yes, I know you don't exactly think 'Award-winning writer' when you hear Lauren Conrad, but I did enjoy her first book in the series. It was an easy read and as a reality TV show addict I am interested to see what is revealed in these books, post The Hills fame.

3. Are you there Vodka? It's me, Chelsea by Chelsea Handler
If it's by Chelsea Handler, I'm going to love it! I'm currently reading her first book (again) and just dying to read her latest books. This book is next!

4. The Bro Code by Barney Stinson
If this book is anything like the show it originates from (How I met your Mother), I know I'm going to love it! I can't wait to read it; it's going to be legen .... wait for it ... dary!

5. The Last American Man by Elizabeth Gilbert
I enjoyed Elizabeth's books on her own life (despite my initial apprehensions) so I'm quite interested to read one of her other books that is fictional.

I LOVE the feeling of buying new books. To go home with your arms full of new literature your eyes have not gazed upon. Hopefully one day (sometime in the near future hopefully) I will have a book of my own on the shelves. For now, I shall just riddle the interweb with my thinking.
